In the annals of recorded history, has there ever been a more convenient machine tool than the hydraulic profile bender? After decades of evolution the hydraulic profile bender is close to the pinnacle of its design concept.
After all, how much better can these profile rolls get? In the case of the Durma angle rolls carried by Bud’s Machine Tools, you have sophisticated hydraulic drives turning all three rolls simultaneously, with some to all of them independently turning at variable speeds if necessary. Even in the lesser expensive smaller models in the Durma series all rolls are driven.
All sizes of hydraulic profile rolls available from Bud’s have a full over pressure safety cutoff device. Because of this feature, the rolls cannot be over pressurized. All of the hydraulic profile rolls we sell are C.E. certified which is the technical equivalent of “U.L.” approved. All of our rolls come with a universal set of bending rolls (dies) which are hardened to 52 Rockwell “B” scale and finished ground to engineering specifications.
Hydraulics, that’s how. To manufacture a first-class hydraulic system you need more than a few quality components. You must start with a high-quality long-life motor, coupled to a high quality hydraulic pump designed to last for many years of service. In addition to those two main components, a veritable variety of switches, valves, sensors and well-designed hydraulic piping structure rounds out the well thought out hydraulic system.
In Durma's PBH series of hydraulic profile rolls, all rolls are powered, from the smallest model to the largest. This is a good thing for a couple of reasons. First, all rolls are powered and adjusted hydraulically, which means a faster set-up or change over time for the operator. The second good reason is that the two lower rolls have D.R.O.’s on them, which is good because you can watch real time adjustments in the bend radius as you go, plus you can take bend note sequencing and produce a production executable build plan. (What on earth did they do before Digital Read-Outs came along?!)
The kind of roll shaft drive a particular machine will have depends on the size of the hydraulic profile roll in question. On the smaller sizes Durma uses a precision gear drive to power the roll shafts and lateral rolls. In the medium to larger sizes of roll benders Durma employs a hydraulic motor via planetary gearbox design to provide more torque. In the massive size (special order only) machines of say, shipbuilding capability, the factory will choose the best method of design and employ it where engineering is in agreement.
You can pick up any of the Durma PBH series of hydraulic profile benders at Bud's Machine Tools in Salt Lake City, Utah, where they remain some of our most popular machines.
The line-up of new profile rolls starts with the PBH-45 model which can bend 1-¾" x 1-¾" square tubing. Next up the capacity ladder is the PBH-60 which will bend 2" x 2" square tubing. With the addition of the PBH-80, 100 and 125 models we now cover every ¾ of an inch from 2" through 4". Machines larger than the PBH-125 would be a factory order with lead times of 8 to 12 weeks delivery.
Bud's Machine Tools — that’s the answer for all the questions a customer might have. Can Bud's install my new or used machine tool and get it running in my shop? Yes, yes they can. Can Bud's service my machine long after the sale is forgotten? Yes, yes they can. At Bud's, we put the customer first!
